FAQ

bdm chart questionPlease read the Black Dog Medical overview to see all the benefits of joining our membership-based primary care practice. Here are a few Q&As about the practice:

What kind of patients does Black Dog Medical care for?

Dr. Wyshak cares for adults of all ages, primarily full-time residents in the Downeast area. (Alas, no dogs or kids under 18.)

Can Maine residents who spend part of the year OUTSIDE of Maine be patients?

Maine residents can receive care remotely when you are traveling. Dr. Wyshak is licensed in Maine.

Can I stop my membership for the months when I am not living in Maine?

Being a member of Black Dog Medical means having continuous care and continuous membership, whether or not you are physically living in Maine.

Can NON-Maine residents who spend part of the year Maine be patients?

Due to being a small practice, we tend not offer care to visitors other than full-time residents or patients the doctor has cared for previously.

Why is there a membership fee?

Your membership fee basically funds the practice and your direct access to Dr. Wyshak, much as how you pay a membership to a club.

Medicare and all insurance companies pay such a small fraction of what is billed that it would not be feasible for our practice to survive without our membership fee.

We hope our service will not only keep long-time Downeasters happy and well but give retirees confidence to move Downeast with access to Dr. Wyshak’s primary care practice.

Does Black Dog Medical accept insurance and Medicare?

Yes! As of right now, Black Dog Medical is in-network for the following insurance providers:

If you have coverage from another medical insurance provider, please get in touch to check if perhaps we are in network.

Is this a concierge doctor service?

No, this is a small primary care medical practice. We hope to care for many Downeast patients, so it is actually very different in concept from a concierge practice. If you prefer a doctor who can frequently be on hand for visits and calls, a concierge doctor would be a better alternative as a provider.

Is there a plan for workplaces to cover employees?

We do not have a pre-set program but are open to possibilities for providing employee healthcare in Downeast Maine. Please get in touch to discuss your needs.

I wish Black Dog Medical had some other services!

We would love to hear your ideas.
